TSE (technical security device)
The certified security module that German cash systems, including taximeters since 2024, use to record transactions so they cannot be altered.
A TSE (technische Sicherheitseinrichtung) is a certified security module that protects electronic records of cash transactions against manipulation. In Germany, taximeters have needed a TSE since 1 January 2024 (older INSIKA meters since 1 January 2026); new distance counters need one from 1 July 2024 and older distance counters with a TSE interface from 1 January 2027.
This is general information, not legal advice.
Related: taximeter and TSE integration.
