Private hire (Mietwagen)
Pre-booked passenger transport by licensed vehicles that, unlike taxis, cannot be hailed in the street or wait at taxi ranks.
Private hire vehicles carry passengers on pre-booked trips only. They cannot be hailed in the street or wait at taxi ranks. In Germany the equivalent is the Mietwagen; in the UK, private hire vehicles are licensed separately from hackney carriages.
