What happens to your data when you change taxi software?

· By Marvin Briffa, Director of Operations

Manager reviewing a live operations dashboard

Your customer list, corporate accounts, addresses and booking history are among the most valuable things your taxi business owns. Here is what to check before you change system.

Your rights

Under the GDPR, a provider that processes your customers’ personal data on your behalf must return or delete it at the end of the contract, at your choice. Since September 2025, the EU Data Act also gives customers of cloud and software services a right to switch providers, with limits on notice and transition periods, and switching charges are banned from January 2027.

What to check in your current contract

  • Which data you can export, and in which formats
  • How long an export takes and whether it costs extra
  • Notice periods and exit terms
  • Who owns your passenger app listing

What to ask a new provider

  • Which data they can import, and how they check quality before go-live
  • Where your data is hosted
  • How you get your data out if you ever leave them

See your data comes with you.
