Taxi Barok: A Taxi Dispatch System for Street Hails, Phone and App Bookings

Taxi Barok, a taxi company in Varaždin, Croatia, moved to the eCabs Technologies platform in two months. Street hails, phone bookings and app bookings now run on one platform, with street-hail functionality built for Croatian requirements.

Passenger booking a taxi on a smartphone

Taxi Barok is a taxi company in Varaždin, Croatia, established in 2023. Most of its work comes from passengers hailing cars in the street and calling to book. In two months it moved to the eCabs Technologies platform, which supports those channels and adds booking through its own app.

The challenge: adding an app without risking street and phone work

Traditional taxi operators cannot afford to abandon the business they have spent years building. For Taxi Barok, street hails and telephone bookings were already established sources of demand.

Customer and driver expectations were also rising, and the company wanted to grow its digital bookings. The aim was to protect the existing business while building new digital revenue.

The move needed to deliver:

  • Continuity for existing street-hail and call-centre operations
  • A modern booking experience for passengers and drivers
  • Support for Croatian taxi workflows
  • Faster access to operating and commercial data
  • A platform that can support future growth

What did eCabs Technologies provide for Taxi Barok?

Street, phone and app bookings on one platform

Street hails, telephone bookings and app-based rides are supported within one operation. Taxi Barok can serve its existing customers while developing its digital business.

Street-hail functionality built for Croatia

eCabs Technologies developed street-hail functionality specifically for Croatian requirements, connecting traditional taxi work with the driver app and digital operating records. Read more about how we approach local rules in South-East Europe.

A switch completed in two months

Taxi Barok completed its migration and launch in two months, helped by our existing experience in Croatia and established onboarding steps. Every operator is different, so dates are agreed during planning.

Passenger and driver apps

Branded passenger and driver apps, integrated dispatch, pricing, business accounts and operational reporting give the company the technology to grow.

Its own name, with familiar vehicle branding

Taxi Barok kept its own name. It also adopted vehicle branding similar to that used by eCabs in Malta, Blue in Romania and RooRides in Australia.

How can a taxi company keep street hails and phone bookings when it adds an app?

By adding the app to the same platform rather than replacing the channels that already work. Not every taxi booking starts in an app. Many passengers still hail a car in the street or call their local taxi company.

eCabs Technologies supports the channels these businesses depend on, so an operator does not have to move to an app-only model. For Taxi Barok, the platform supports:

  • Street-hail ride workflows
  • Telephone booking and dispatch
  • App-based passenger bookings
  • Integrated driver operations
  • Pricing and operational reporting
  • Corporate and business accounts

Who supported the switch in Varaždin?

A technology migration does not end when the software goes live. We have operated our own taxi business since 2010, so we understand the pressure of changing systems while customers keep booking and drivers keep working.

Our team worked directly with Taxi Barok to understand its requirements, configure the platform and support the transition. Team members, including Milan from our regional team, travelled to Varaždin to work alongside Taxi Barok during launch, with direct communication and hands-on training.

What appealed to us about eCabs Technologies is that the platform comes from people who have run a taxi business themselves.

The outcome: stabilise, modernise, grow

In two months, Taxi Barok moved to eCabs Technologies while keeping the street-hail and telephone channels at the heart of its business.

With Croatian street-hail functionality, branded apps and hands-on support, it can continue serving its established customers and build a digital booking business on the same platform.

Why Taxi Barok matters for traditional taxi operators

Modern taxi technology should adapt to the operator, not the other way around. Operators can modernise at their own pace, keeping the channels that work while adding the technology they need to compete and grow.

Taxi Barok is also the second Croatian city on the platform, after Taxi Fiume in Rijeka, and it benefited from the localisation, experience and regional support already in place. A third Croatian operator has signed, and the same market knowledge can be applied there.

You don’t need to abandon what made your business successful to modernise it.
