Bulgaria’s leading taxi operator migrates to eCabs Technologies’ platform

eCabs Technologies on Tuesday announced that Volt Premium Taxi, Bulgaria’s leading taxi operator, has officially completed a full migration to its ridehailing platform.

The move sees Volt Premium Taxi transition from the UK-based Sherlock platform to eCabs Technologies, as it doubles down on a more data-driven, technology-led approach to growth, service reliability, and continuous improvement.

For eCabs Technologies, the partnership with Volt Premium Taxi marks another milestone in its European expansion, as the company continues to power regulated-market operators seeking to modernise ahead of rapid competitive change.

The collaboration comes at a pivotal moment for Bulgaria, currently the only EU country without global ridehailing platforms, with market entry expected this year. As local operators prepare for increased pressure on quality, speed, and pricing, Volt Premium Taxi’s full migration to the eCabs Technologies tech stack signals a proactive strategy: invest early in scalable technology, strengthen operational performance, and retain local ownership of customer relationships.

Commenting on the migration, eCabs Technologies CEO Matthew Bezzina said the shift reflects a broader change happening across Europe, where forward-looking operators are choosing platform capability and agility as non-negotiables.

“This is a clear signal of intent from Volt Premium Taxi’s leadership team, indicating a decisive move towards a modern, data-driven operation that can evolve quickly as the market changes,” Bezzina said.

“In every city we have worked in, once an operator experiences what a high-performance platform enables, expectations rise fast: product, speed, and continuous improvement become the standard. Volt Premium Taxi is positioning itself to raise the bar for Sofia and we’re excited to be along for the ride.”

Oggy Popov, Co-founder and CEO of Volt Premium Taxi, said the company’s move to eCabs Technologies is designed to strengthen reliability, reduce cancellations, and build a scalable operational foundation ahead of increased competition.

“Sofia is at an inflection point. We want Volt Premium Taxi to lead that change, rather than react to it. Migrating fully to eCabs Technologies gives us the technology stack and data capabilities to improve service quality, move faster, and keep raising standards for both customers and drivers. This is an investment in long-term leadership in the Bulgarian market,” he said.

Over the coming weeks, Volt Premium Taxi will continue its rollout with a planned launch window and a full operational ramp-up following the complete migration of drivers and customers, supported by eCabs Technologies’ implementation and operational expertise.

eCabs Technologies strikes deal to enter German market though Taxi Now Frankfurt

A Frankfurt-based taxi dispatch centre is shifting its live operations to technology developed by Malta-based eCabs Technologies.

eCabs announced its new strategic partnership with Taxi Now Frankfurt in a statement on Monday.

Taxi Now Frankfurt will be migrating its existing live business to the eCabs platform and timelines for the migration will depend on several factors, including ride volumes and the depth of systems integrations.

Germany’s taxi market is still heavily reliant on offline booking methods such as phone dispatch, radio calls, taxi ranks, hotels and streetside cab hailing, which account for 70 per cent of all demand.

eCabs believes the market is “under digitalised” and ripe for disruption.

“Germany is one of the most operationally demanding mobility markets in Europe,” eCabs Technologies CEO Matthew Bezzina said.

“Successfully onboarding a live dispatch centre like Taxi Now is certainly a commercial win, but it is also an important proof point that our platform can indeed meet the highly challenging regulatory, technical and operational requirements of one of the continent’s most complex mobility environments.”

Bezzina said the deal with Taxi Now follows a multi-year investment into a Germany-focused commercial team that includes German-speaking support and operations teams.

eCabs Technologies also invested in product development tailored to German regulatory requirements, including taximeter integrations, tax authority interfaces, healthcare transport systems, and public transport infrastructure links.

Celestyn Pfaffl, Owner of Taxi Now Frankfurt owner Meycar GmbH, said the company had weighed its decision to migrate a live operation heavily/

“We were looking for a technology partner that understands the operational realities of the German taxi market, not just generic ride-hailing use cases. eCabs Technologies demonstrated both the technical maturity and the long-term product vision we believe are necessary to future-proof our business,” he said.

The eCabs Technologies ride-hailing platform is now active in Malta; Athens (Greece); Bucharest and Brașov (Romania); Berlin and Frankfurt (Germany); Bristol (UK); and Esperance (Australia). The company says it will be announcing another city launch in the Nordics this year.

eCabs Technologies is the tech arm of eCabs Mobility, a ride-hailing platform focused on the Maltese market. The company offers white-label SaaS tech platforms for mobility operators across the globe.

Esperance Australia RooRides

eCabs Technologies launches in Australia with RooRides

Operator-first ride-hailing tech arrives in Western Australia.

eCabs Technologies is now live in Western Australia with RooRides, starting in Esperance, one of the state’s most stunning coastal towns, and expanding next to other high-demand destinations. This brings us to seven countries and 18+ cities worldwide. Same mission, new coastline: help local operators launch, grow, and stay independent in markets dominated by global giants.

Meet RooRides

RooRides is built by a team that understands Western Australia’s rhythms: seasonal demand, regional journeys, and visitors who expect capital-city reliability. The goal is clear: redefine local mobility in Esperance first, then scale across the state with a brand locals and tourists can trust.

Alongside the tech rollout, our branding playbook enabled a rapid, low-friction go-live: vehicle livery, driver onboarding materials, app-store assets, signage, and launch collateral shipped as a cohesive kit. That’s why you’ll already see a tight, consistent visual presence on cars and across touchpoints: recognisable, trusted, and ready from day one.

Operator-first technology, built in real cities

Our platform was born in live city operations and hardened across multiple markets. For partners like RooRides, that translates into:

  • Passenger & driver apps that drivers actually adopt and riders keep.
  • One queue across channels (app, phone, business bookings) to lift availability and improve marketplace efficiency.
  • Real-time dispatch & compliance tooling built for regulated environments.
  • Operations analytics that turn day-to-day performance into compounding advantages.

This is the infrastructure that lets local operators deliver a seamless experience in regional markets, without ceding control to a global marketplace.

Australia joins a growing network

RooRides shows what happens when local ambition meets a battle-tested platform and ready-to-ship brand system: fast launch, immediate trust, and the runway to scale on your own terms. Australia is our latest step in a journey that has brought us to seven countries, 18+ cities. And we’re just getting started.

A Smarter Way to Ride in the UK

A major milestone in our international journey, as we expand into the UK with our newest City Partner, Like a Ride.

We’re proud to announce our official entry into the United Kingdom with the launch of our newest City Partner: Like a Ride, a Bristol-born, community-first ride-hailing operator. This marks the sixth European market where our enterprise mobility platform is now live, joining Malta, Athens, Bucharest, Brașov, and Berlin.

This expansion builds on the momentum of our recently completed €18 million technology development programme, a multi-year effort that has resulted in one of the most advanced ride-hailing platforms available to local operators today. Purpose-built for scalability, efficiency, and user experience, the platform is already powering operators across Europe who are ready to digitise and grow sustainably.

Like a Ride is led by Mircea Aron, a mobility entrepreneur with deep roots in the UK sector and a clear mission: to offer a ride-hailing experience rooted in fairness, driver empowerment, and community trust. Drawing on his team’s understanding of Bristol’s transport ecosystem, Mircea saw in eCabs Technologies not just a platform, but a partner offering end-to-end operational support: from seamless routing and secure payments to real-time insights for fleet management.

For us, this partnership reflects everything we believe in. Like a Ride represents the kind of local operator we built our platform for: those who want to do things differently, and who see technology as a tool for better service, not just scale. It’s a collaboration built on shared values: fairness, inclusion, innovation.

The ambitions are bold but grounded. Like a Ride is preparing to serve 100,000 active riders annually, with a network of 500 local drivers completing up to 3,000 rides per day. That vision begins in Bristol but doesn’t end there. Longer-term plans include expanding across strategic cities and towns in the UK, building a network of locally led, tech-enabled ride-hailing operations.

As we continue our mission to support operators in their digital transformation, this latest partnership is proof that there’s a different way to scale mobility; one that’s local first, backed by best-in-class technology, and built to last.

brasov launch

Blue expands to Brașov with eCabs Technologies

The Romanian ride-hailing brand takes its next step in nationwide growth, powered by a platform built for multi-city scale.

Blue, the Romanian ride-hailing service powered by eCabs Technologies, has launched operations in Brașov, expanding its footprint beyond Bucharest and accelerating its national growth plan.

This latest launch marks another milestone for eCabs Technologies, whose platform is designed from the ground up to enable mobility operators to scale efficiently across multiple jurisdictions. With Brașov now online, Blue is showing what’s possible when local ambition meets a technology platform built for scale.

Blue first launched in Bucharest in September 2023 with a fleet of Tesla Model 3 and Y vehicles and a commitment to modernising the ride-hailing experience in Romania. The fleet has since grown to include Mercedes EQEs, positioning Blue as a leader in the premium urban mobility segment. Backed by Autonom Drive, the country’s largest mobility operator, Blue has quickly earned a reputation for quality, safety, and a forward-thinking approach.

The move into Brașov – one of Romania’s largest and fastest-growing urban centres – confirms Blue’s intention to become a nationwide operator. With a population of over 20 million and more than 11 million tourist arrivals annually, Romania represents a high-potential market. Brașov in particular, with its strong year-round tourism, is an attractive opportunity for premium ride-hailing services.

The expansion also demonstrates the strength of the eCabs Technologies platform, which combines over 16 years of operational expertise with €18 million in investment to-date. The platform’s scalability and adaptability are helping local operators compete in regulated and competitive markets.

“This is exactly what we set out to do: help strong local operators expand rapidly and with confidence,” said eCabs Technologies CEO Matthew Bezzina. “We built this platform to handle the complexities of multi-city deployments, and Blue’s successful expansion into Brașov is a clear sign that it’s working.”

Andrei Stancu, Managing Partner at Blue, echoed this sentiment: “The ride-hailing space in Romania has long suffered from low service standards and outdated vehicles, driven by a race to the bottom on price. With Blue, we saw a clear gap and opportunity to set a new benchmark. We’re delivering a premium yet accessible service that’s built on safety, reliability, and a tech-driven user experience, operating 24/7 with modern, high-quality vehicles.”

eCabs Technologies now powers ride-hailing services in Malta, Athens (Greece), Berlin (Germany), Bucharest and Brașov (Romania), and Bristol (UK), with a growing presence in cities where legacy operators are modernising under their own brands. With a technology stack designed for flexibility, speed, and operational depth, the platform is enabling new mobility brands to emerge and thrive in competitive environments.

Blue’s expansion into Brașov is a significant chapter in that story, highlighting how purpose-built, operator-first technology is enabling mobility businesses to scale smarter and faster across Europe and beyond.

Matthew Bezzina at Meet-the-Cab 2025: Driving Taxi Industry Innovation

A look at Matthew Bezzina’s insights on adapting to change, leveraging technology, and driving the future of the taxi industry at Meet-the-Cab 2025 in Vienna.

At the Meet-the-Cab 2025 conference in Vienna, Matthew Bezzina, CEO of eCabs Technologies, delivered a compelling message to legacy taxi operators: the future belongs to those who embrace change and technology. Highlighting the stark reality facing the traditional taxi industry, Bezzina emphasised that competing with global ride-hailing giants requires more than just playing defense—it demands rapid evolution, smarter strategies, and a commitment to innovation.

Bezzina shared the story of eCabs Technologies’ 15-year journey, transforming through technology, agility, and a hyper-localised, customer-centric approach. He illustrated the importance of adaptation by referencing the frog in the pan, which fails to react to gradual change, and the turtle, which has survived since the time of the dinosaurs through continuous adaptation. This metaphor underscored his key message: evolution is not optional for survival in today’s fast-paced industry.

Representing both the technology and the operations behind Malta’s Private Hire sector at a traditionally taxi-focused event, Bezzina’s presence was a testament to the importance of open dialogue and collaboration across industry lines. Invited by Christian Holzhauser and Julia Schellnast from Taxi 40100, his participation highlighted a willingness to foster innovation and share strategies that drive the entire industry forward.

Bezzina’s presentation highlighted how eCabs Technologies leverages cutting-edge technology for operational efficiency and customer satisfaction, while emphasising the need for industry-wide innovation. He detailed investments in digital platforms, AI-driven pricing, automated dispatch, and eco-friendly fleet solutions, urging legacy operators to rethink strategies and adopt modern tools. The Meet-the-Cab 2025 conference provided a vital platform for these discussions, leaving attendees with a clear message: to survive and thrive, the taxi industry must evolve swiftly, embrace technology, and remain agile in an ever-changing market landscape.

eCabs Technologies CEO tells UN body of ‘sandboxing’ opportunities in Malta

Matthew Bezzina spoke at the recent Global Innovation Forum.

Malta presents the perfect sandbox to test tech start ups, but scaling internationally is where the real challenge begins, eCabs Technologies CEO Matthew Bezzina told a United Nations event.

Speaking at the Global Innovation Forum last month, Bezzina weighed in on the complexities of scaling a business initiated in a small market, but said that given its seasonality, small size, and dynamic market, Malta is a perfect destination to test new technology solutions.

“For context, eCabs launched 15 years ago, the same year Uber started in the US and five years before Bolt. Sandboxing in Malta was perfect for us as we were able to test out ride-hailing technology in urban, suburban, and rural settings all at the same time and able to tweak our product in real time,” Bezzina explained.

The same, he said, could be true for other emerging technology in different contexts.

He emphasised that the regulatory landscape of a small, island nation like Malta required tailored solutions that did not always align with approaches used in more expansive markets.

This, however, proved to be a major asset for the company.

Bezzina said that being forced to have flexibility when designing the eCabs product over the years, positioned him and his team to understand the pain points of operators in diverse markets.

In packing this unique operational understanding, together with their tech, and their insights into marketing and different regulatory contexts, eCabs is now seeking to empower shared mobility companies to embrace digitisation.

Bezzina highlighted that while Malta’s size allowed eCabs to rapidly test and implement new technologies, expanding beyond national borders demanded an entirely different strategy.

“The process involves not only adapting to diverse regulatory requirements but also understanding the cultural and operational nuances of new regions,” he noted.

The forum, hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Malta, gathered global tech leaders to discuss the future of digital transformation and entrepreneurship.

The ITU, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is the UN’s oldest specialised agency and has been connecting the world since 1865.

With a membership comprising 194 Member States and over 1,000 companies, universities, and international organisations, the ITU’s Global Innovation Forum is a hub for exchanging ideas that shape the global tech landscape.

Bezzina was joined by Abi Gooch, the Global Corporate Responsibility Strategy Leader at Ernst & Young, Adma Rahman, Head of Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre, Ministry for Education, Brunei, Rosario Huaranaca Quispe, Generation Connect Youth Envoy, Bolivia, Prof Russel Smith, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation, University of Malta, and Zhuoyong Shi, Generation Connect Youth Envoy, China.

Asked what he felt underpinned the eCabs story, Bezzina said that successful scaling hinges on an agile mindset and a robust foundation built on trust.

“Building trust in a market as compact as Malta gave us the core advantage we needed when approaching larger, more complex markets,” Bezzina remarked.

He credited the lessons learned from navigating Malta’s regulations and customer expectations as instrumental in preparing eCabs for international expansion.

Today eCabs powers successful ride-hailing operations in Malta, as well as Athens, Greece, and Bucharest, Romania, with several other European jurisdictions in the pipeline for 2025.

With more than 450 employees and a quarter of a million rides completed monthly, the company has undergone considerable growth.

eCabs Technologies CEO addresses mobility tech leaders at Barcelona summit

eCabs Technologies’ CEO, Matthew Bezzina, joined Google Maps and other strategic partners in addressing mobility tech leaders at a summit in Barcelona on Wednesday.

The Leaders In Logistics Summit connects major stakeholders in mobility and logistics from across the globe.

Through unique insights, case studies, and innovation showcases, the event is where senior leaders from Amazon, DHL, Royal Mail, and other operators meet to shape the future of the industry.

eCabs Technologies CEO addresses mobility tech leaders at Barcelona summit 2

Bezzina shared the panel floor with Google Maps Head of Southern Europe Nicola Dalmazzo, Matteo Turani from OniGroup, and Gulliver’s Stefano Capoferri to discuss how integrating the Google Maps Platform is revolutionising the eCabs Technologies’ product.

Earlier this year, eCabs Technologies announced a pioneering strategic partnership with global tech giant Google.

The partnership, signed at Google’s offices in Milan, has seen eCabs integrate several of Google’s industry-leading tools into its ride-hailing tech stack, revolutionising its products and powering several new innovation projects.

The strategic collaboration has empowered all eCabs Technologies ride-hailing products to harness the Google Maps Mobility Platform, the global tech giant’s hyper-intelligent fleet and route management engine.

This integration means ride-hailing tech platforms developed by eCabs Technologies will now boast best-in-class geo-location tools and smart route management systems, for optimised rider, driver, and city partners experience.

In practice, this means eCabs Technologies will be better placed to navigate traffic globally, create optimised routes, and shorten waiting and riding times.

eCabs Technologies is only the second ever shared mobility tech provider globally to integrate Google’s mapping tech stack for ride-hailing purposes.

Speaking during the panel, Bezzina said eCabs Technologies is a company that was born in the smallest EU member state with the densest road network and the highest car ownership per capita – making it a unique sandbox for rolling out and testing ride-hailing technology.

The integration of Google Maps Platform is a major next step in eCabs Technologies’ journey.

“Partnering with Google, the undisputed world leader in global mapping and route management technology, is an endorsement, not only of eCabs Technologies’ mission to be a leading player in the international ride-hailing market but of the high standards of our dedicated and capable team. It signals that we are competing at the highest level in a complex and challenging global industry, truly building scalable and competitive ride-hailing solutions for the world’s operators” Bezzina concluded.

Driving digital transformation with Google Cloud

Driving digital transformation with Google Cloud

eCabs Technologies worked with Google Cloud and TIM Enterprise to achieve its vision, positioning the platform as an always-on option, contributing positively not only to eCabs Malta but also to its city partners and end-users worldwide.

The emergence of smartphone apps has reshaped the ride-hailing industry, presenting both challenges and opportunities for established players.

eCabs Technologies has successfully navigated this digital transformation, combining decades of experience with cutting-edge technology.

The tech mobility company has created its own robust customisable platform, which is designed not only for its own operation, but also paves the way for the digital evolution of legacy cab companies across Europe, and is tailored to meet the diverse needs of operators worldwide.

As the company continued its digital transformation journey, migrating to Google Cloud was a natural progression, enabling flexibility, scalability, and enhanced reliability.

A strategic partnership

In the intricate process of migration, eCabs Technologies found a valuable ally in TIM Enterprise, a Google Cloud partner.

The partnership facilitated a seamless transition from bare metal to GKE architecture, unlocking additional solutions such as BigQuery.

With TIM Enterprise’s guidance, eCabs maximises BigQuery for comprehensive data analytics. This offers valuable insights to customers for planning and performance reviews.

Leveraging Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), eCabs powers its microservices architecture, providing unique environments for international city partners. This move allows quick replication of environments, enabling eCabs to rapidly onboard new customers and showcase the value of its platform.

Google Cloud and TIM Enterprise play a pivotal role in enabling eCabs Technologies to seize current market opportunities and prepare for the future.

As eCabs Technologies continues its international expansion, utilising Google Cloud tools, eCabs Technologies empowers legacy cab companies and new entrants, allowing them to compete with digital-first, ride-hailing giants.
