A milestone moment as Malta’s Prime Minister recognises the global impact of a homegrown tech company.

eCabs Technologies had the honour of welcoming Prime Minister Robert Abela and Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works Chris Bonett to its new headquarters in St Julian’s, Malta. The visit marked a major milestone for the Maltese technology company, which announced the launch of its shared mobility platform in Berlin, Germany, and Bristol, United Kingdom.

PM visit

During the visit, the Prime Minister praised eCabs Technologies as an exceptional example of Maltese innovation reaching international markets. He described the company’s growth as “evidence of the potential of Maltese companies to excel and compete globally,” and highlighted the importance of institutions like the Malta Development Bank and Bank of Valletta in supporting ambitious tech initiatives.

The expansion follows the successful completion of an €18 million product development programme, one of the largest of its kind in Malta.

With operations now spanning cities across Malta, Romania, Greece, Germany, and the UK, eCabs Technologies continues to provide regulation-ready mobility solutions to complex urban environments. A sixth market outside the European Union is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

This visit reflects not only a celebration of local success but also a broader recognition of Malta’s potential as an innovation hub for future-facing industries.

Celebrating 15 Years with a New Home

Commemorating our journey from local disruptor to global mobility leader with a bold new HQ.

As eCabs Technologies marks its 15th anniversary, the company is celebrating more than just a milestone – it is ushering in a bold new chapter of growth, global expansion, and industry transformation. With its recent move to new offices in the Mercury Tower’s Fimbank building in the heart of St. Julian’s, eCabs Technologies is reinforcing its position as a leading innovator in the European shared mobility industry, paving the way for the next phase of its journey.

From a Local Disruptor to a Global Mobility Engine

Since its inception in 2010, eCabs has consistently set the standard for ride-hailing in Malta. What began as a dial-a-cab operation with a vision to revolutionise traditional taxi services quickly evolved into a digital-first pioneer. By 2012, eCabs had introduced an on-demand, app-based mobility solution, years ahead of the mainstream adoption of ride-hailing in Europe.

The mid-2010s saw the arrival of global ride-hailing giants, intensifying market competition. Instead of merely bracing for impact, eCabs transformed this challenge into an opportunity. By 2017, the company had begun developing its own proprietary ride-hailing platform from the ground up, designed not only to compete locally but to serve as a world-class solution for operators globally. The investment in technology only accelerated in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic reinforced the need for scalable, adaptable digital infrastructure.

eCabs Technologies has evolved into a global mobility engine, supporting taxi operators across multiple markets with a scalable, competitive ride-hailing solution built for the future. With a world-class ride-hailing platform already disrupting the industry, the company is shifting from an intensive building phase to a market-driven growth strategy, accelerating its expansion and redefining mobility solutions on a global scale.

Positioned for Growth in a Transforming Industry

The European shared mobility market is projected to grow from €85 billion as of 2024 to €200 billion by 2030, driven by urbanisation, digitalisation, and evolving regulatory frameworks. eCabs Technologies is uniquely positioned to capitalise on this transformation by equipping traditional taxi operators with the tools they need to compete against global giants like Uber and Bolt.

With over 100,000 taxi companies across Europe, the demand for cutting-edge technology that enables fleet operators to scale and modernise has never been greater. eCabs Technologies offers an alternative to costly market expansion strategies, allowing operators to digitise and optimise their services without engaging in unsustainable fare wars. The company’s platform is built to empower local taxi operators, ensuring they remain competitive while adhering to regional regulations.

The company’s move into its new headquarters reflects its continued commitment to innovation and excellence, standing as a testament to Malta’s potential to produce high-growth businesses beyond its traditional strongholds of hospitality and construction. eCabs Technologies is leading the way in shaping the island’s tech industry, proving that Malta can be a hub for cutting-edge technology and global innovation. Situated in the Mercury Tower complex, the office space is designed to foster collaboration, attract top talent, and provide the infrastructure needed to support eCabs Technologies’ growing international footprint.

A Future Fueled by Innovation and Expansion

Looking ahead, eCabs Technologies is laser-focused on accelerating its international expansion, strengthening its partnerships, and continuously enhancing its platform. The next phase of growth will see the company scaling its presence in key markets where regulatory shifts and technological readiness create the highest potential for impact, driving digital transformation across the taxi industry.

The move to Fimbank Mercury Tower represents more than just a physical transition – it symbolizes a company that has continuously evolved, adapted, and led in an ever-changing mobility landscape. As eCabs Technologies embarks on this new phase, it remains committed to its mission: empowering taxi operators worldwide with the technology they need to thrive in the digital era.

As the company celebrates its 15-year milestone, one thing is clear – this is just the beginning. eCabs Technologies is not just moving into a new office; it is stepping into the future of mobility.
