Cultivating a driver-centric culture at eCabs

Building the future together

6:00 AM—The sun is just beginning to rise as Grace, an eCabs driver with three years of experience, wakes up to start her day. She grabs her phone and opens the eCabs Driver App, which displays a personalised dashboard. She notices that there’s a surge in demand near Msida due to a morning conference—a detail highlighted thanks to our real-time data analytics.

6:30 AM—After a quick breakfast, Grace heads to her car. Before setting off, she checks the new driver campaigns feature in the app. This week, there’s a challenge to complete eight rides for a bonus. Motivated, she accepts the challenge.

7:00 AM—Grace picks up her first passenger, a business professional heading to the conference. The app’s navigation, powered by our partnership with Google Maps Mobility Platform, suggests the fastest route, avoiding unexpected traffic from an accident reported moments ago. The passenger is impressed with the smooth ride and leaves a five-star rating.

8:00 AM—Between rides, Grace receives a notification about surge pricing activated in her area—an update we implemented after drivers requested a way to maximise earnings during peak times.

9:30 AM—She stops by Ottimo Cafè for a quick coffee break. There, she chats with other drivers about the new gamification features. Some are excited about the friendly competition.. The shop buzzes with camaraderie, reinforcing the sense of community.

10:00 AM—Back on the road, Grace is also participating in a beta test for an upcoming app navigation feature using the new build. As a driver who frequently provides feedback, she’s invited to try out new tools before they’re released. She appreciates that her suggestions are valued and often see the light of day in app updates.

12:00 PM—After several more rides, Grace checks her progress on the driver campaign. She’s halfway to her goal. The gamification elements make her work feel more engaging, almost turning her day into a rewarding game.

2:00 PM—She picks up a passenger who mentions how much they enjoy using eCabs, citing positive experiences with friendly drivers like Grace. This feedback boosts her spirits, reminding her why she loves her job.

4:00 PM—As Grace wraps up her day, she reviews her earnings, which are higher thanks to the surge pricing periods and the driver campaign which she has now completed. Feeling accomplished, she heads home, looking forward to the next day’s challenges.

At eCabs, drivers like Grace are at the heart of everything we do. By immersing ourselves in their daily experiences, we understand the importance of tools and features that make their work more efficient, profitable, and enjoyable.

Like our CEO Matthew Bezzina says, ‘we respect the past, but we build for the future’. Our journey from a traditional dial-a-cab service to a leading digital ride-hailing platform has been guided by putting our drivers first.

Driving Innovation from Behind the Wheel

To truly understand our drivers, we need to experience their world. While some of us come from tech backgrounds, key members of our team are former drivers.

Their firsthand insights shape our product development, ensuring we address real challenges. They share stories about navigating busy streets, engaging with passengers, and the nuances of day-to-day driving that only someone behind the wheel would know.

By integrating their experiences, we’re able to build solutions that genuinely make a difference.

Collaborating on Features That Matter

We don’t make assumptions about what our drivers need—we ask them. Through beta test sessions, ride-alongs, and regular conversations at our garages, we maintain open communication.

This collaborative approach led to the implementation of surge pricing, a highly requested feature that helps drivers like Grace maximise earnings during peak demand.

One driver shared, “The introduction of surge pricing has really boosted my income during busy times. It’s great to see eCabs listening to us.”

Building the Future Together

The mobility industry is changing fast, and our drivers are at the forefront of this transformation. We understand that embracing innovation is a team effort.

By involving drivers—including former drivers now on our team—in the development process, we’re able to anticipate needs and deliver solutions that keep us all ahead of the curve.

Moreover, eCabs Technologies is actively engaging in collaborative consulting and testing initiatives with our international city partners. This ensures that our solutions are seamlessly aligned with the unique needs and expectations of each urban environment.

Your Voice Matters

Every driver has unique insights that contribute to our collective success. We’re committed to fostering an environment where voices are heard, ideas are valued, and contributions are recognised. After all, building the future of mobility is a journey we’re on together.

Are you an eCabs driver with ideas to share? Or maybe you’re interested in joining a company that values your input and invests in your growth? Reach out to us today and be part of shaping the future of ride-hailing.

Together, we’re not just driving cars—we’re driving change.

6 top tips for a successful relocation

When it comes to successful relocation planning, you need to start early and organise yourself well. Here are some important steps that may be of help.

Make a project plan

As soon as you have determined the date when you will be making your move, go ahead and book a removal company if you need one.

They tend to get booked up very fast, so they may not be able to help you on the day that you need them if you are not careful.

It is also wise to make a relocation budget, and stick to it as much as you can.

If you are moving overseas, now is the time to book the mode of transport you will be using to get to your final destination.

Make a to-do list

One key to a successful move is keeping organised.

Write out a to-do list and tick off the tasks you complete.

Not only will this make your life easier, but it will also give you a feeling of satisfaction that you are on the way to reaching your goal.

Things to put on your list include:

  • Key dates for when you need to complete your tasks.
  • Items you need to help you pack including boxes, tape etc.
  • What you are going to take with you / trash / recycle / donate.
  • Important documents and paperwork you require.
  • Services and subscriptions you need to cancel or redirect.

Check in with your moving company

If you have booked a moving company to help you carry or store your belongings, it is a good idea to check in with them a few days before your moving date to make sure all is well.

Also make sure to check that they will be there on the reserved day and at the right time. You don’t want any nasty surprises on the day.

Always have a Plan B to ensure a successful relocation

In life, things rarely go exactly to plan. So, it is important to have a ‘Plan B’ just in case.

In this way, when things go wrong (and they invariably will), try not to panic and do be flexible.

If you have an alternative plan, you can be safe in the knowledge that you can salvage your day/time/money.

Take care of children and pets

Moving is always a tense experience to a certain extent. Even more so if children or animals are involved.

Big events such as moving can make them stressed or worried, so do try and make their experience as easy and pleasant as possible.

On moving day, try to get someone else to take care of them, so you can concentrate fully on the move.

Research your new home for a successful relocation experience

Finally, do some homework on the country you are moving to well before you leave.

It is a great idea to learn about things like the weather, language, culture, and customs so you have an idea of what to expect when you arrive to start your exciting new life and start to meet new people.

If you are working onsite, you should also research where the office building is, and how best to get there, so you are not late or flustered on your first day of work.

Are you thinking of moving abroad for work and have the skills we need?

Why Moving to Malta Could Be Your Best Decision Yet

If you’re considering a career move, Malta offers a unique blend of opportunity, lifestyle, and culture. Here’s why joining eCabs Technologies on this Mediterranean gem might just be the perfect choice for you.

Glorious weather

Malta is famous for its stunning weather. With an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, you’ll enjoy hot summers and mild winters. This means you can swim in the Mediterranean Sea—or an outdoor pool—nearly year-round, especially from early April to late October.

Outdoor activities and al fresco dining are part of everyday life, making it easy to embrace an active, sun-filled lifestyle.

Multilingual culture

Malta is a bilingual country, with Maltese and English as its official languages. Almost everyone speaks English fluently, ensuring a smooth transition for work and everyday interactions. Many Maltese also understand and speak Italian, adding another layer of linguistic accessibility.

If you’re comfortable with English, you’ll find navigating both your personal and professional life a breeze in Malta.

Heritage at your doorstep

Beyond the incredible weather, Malta boasts a rich history that stretches back to the Neolithic period. Archaeological sites, museums, and cultural landmarks are scattered across the islands.

Why move to Malta for work 5 great reasons

In locations like Valletta, Mdina (see photo), the Three Cities, and Gozo, you can feel history come alive. Malta also has a thriving arts, music, and theater scene, with festivals and events happening year-round. Add to that the colorful village festas, and you’ll never run out of cultural experiences.

A paradise for sports lovers

Whether you’re into tennis, football, running, or hitting the gym, Malta has something for every sports enthusiast. Gyms are abundant, and sports complexes offer facilities for tennis, padel, football, and even golf.

Prefer outdoor adventures? The islands are a haven for runners, hikers, abseilers, cyclists, and more. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to stay active, both indoors and out.

Global connections

Malta’s strategic location places you at the heart of the Euro-Mediterranean region, offering seamless connectivity to Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. The Malta International Airport connects you to countless destinations, with most European cities just a short flight away—perfect for weekend getaways or business travel.

Beyond air travel, Malta’s proximity to the Mediterranean opens up even more possibilities. Sicily is just a ferry ride away, and the wider region is easily accessible, making Malta an ideal base for exploring the cultural and economic hubs of the Mediterranean and beyond.

With its unparalleled access to such a dynamic and diverse region, Malta truly positions you at the crossroads of opportunity.

A reality check, please!

No place is perfect, and Malta has its challenges. The summer heat, while beloved by many, can be intense for those unused to high temperatures. Investing in air conditioning is essential for staying comfortable during humid nights, especially if you’ll be working from home.

Malta’s high car-to-person ratio can lead to traffic congestion during peak hours. Noise pollution is also a reality in busier areas, so noise-cancelling headphones might become your best friend.

And while Malta’s laid-back lifestyle is part of its charm, bureaucracy can sometimes be slow. Sorting out documents may take longer than expected—but our exceptional HR team is here to help smooth the process.

All in all, however, the pluses far outweigh the minuses, otherwise we surely would not have more than 22 nationalities working in our eCabs Technologies team!

Why make Malta your home in 2024

Why you should make Malta your home in 2024

There are plenty of reasons why you should make Malta your home in 2024. In this blog, we outline a few of the most interesting ones.

Quality of life

If you decide to live or work in Malta, get ready to embrace its unique way of life. The Maltese Islands, made up of Malta and Gozo, boast of a lot of positives.

For starters, by and large, it is possible to maintain a good work-life balance and have the time to dedicate to your passions or hobbies.

There are few countries where you can take a dip in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea pretty much from late April to early November (some people are even found swimming in December or even after!)

Dining al fresco is also possible most months out of the year. Although large parts of the island are built-up, there are still places where you can go picnicking, running or hiking during the cooler periods.

Malta offers a high standard of living that is hard to beat. The island has a mild Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters, making it an ideal location for outdoor activities year-round.

Malta is also known for its beautiful beaches, clear blue waters, and stunning landscapes, which attract tourists from around the world.

Strong economy and high safety

Malta is a member of the European Union and the Eurozone and it uses the Euro as its currency. The country has a low unemployment rate and a high GDP per capita. Crime levels are also relatively low.

As for living costs, we are not saying that Malta is a ‘cheap’ place to live in, but it is generally possible to live well within your means, making it an attractive location for those who would like to save money while still enjoying a good standard of living.

The cost of living in Malta is relatively lower than in several other countries in Europe. If you have a decent salary, you should not only be able to live, but live reasonably well.

The rental market is diverse and the price of rental properties is dependent on where you decide to live, and what kind of housing you are looking for.

Malta’s public transport has been free of charge for all residents since the 1st of October 2022.

The ‘Tallinja Card‘ is required to be able to travel for free on a bus. You will need to tap your card on the ticketing machine every time you board a bus. Another option is to use ride-hailing services such as eCabs of course! The eCabs App is available for both iPhone and Android users.

Malta’s thriving technology industry

Over the past decade, Malta has become a hub for the technology sector, attracting startups, multinational tech companies, and investors from around the world.

The island boasts a highly educated workforce, with many locals fluent in multiple languages. As a result, Malta has a thriving tech sector that continues to grow year after year.

As a tech professional, you will find that Malta’s community is particularly welcoming to those in the industry. The island has a vibrant tech scene, with numerous events, meetups, and networking opportunities throughout the year.

If you attend these tech industry events, you can connect with other tech professionals and expand your network, both locally and internationally.
